Split is a good base because the coast and the islands are on its doorstep. Trogir is the easy half day, Krka the big nature day and Brač the beach lunch. Other islands such as Hvar are worth a night of their own and are not covered here.

A UNESCO-listed old town of Romanesque and Renaissance buildings, packed onto a tiny island between the mainland and Čiovo. You walk its lanes in an hour, which makes it the easiest add-on to a Split stay.

The main town on Brač, a small harbour with a church tower and quiet beaches to the west. A relaxed day for people who want swimming without a long boat ride.
Tip: You do not need a car for this one. Walk west along the shore to the beaches, swim, eat in town and catch an afternoon boat back.
